GEO PRACTICAL GUIDE

AI visibility glossary for international GEO teams

A practical glossary that keeps buyers, marketers, writers and technical teams aligned on what GEO evidence and measurement actually mean.

Visibility and answer terms

AI visibility describes whether and how a brand appears in generated answers for a defined question set. A mention names the brand; a citation links or attributes a source; a recommendation presents the brand as a possible choice. These are different signals and should be reported separately.

Prompt coverage is the share of a controlled question set where the brand appears. It is not a universal market-share metric because answers vary by model, time, location and wording.

Evidence and entity terms

An entity is a recognizable company, product, person or place connected to consistent facts. First-party evidence comes from the organization, while independent evidence comes from credible external sources. Structured data labels visible facts but does not create authority by itself.

Citation readiness means a page is accessible, clear, specific, current and supported well enough to be useful as a source. It does not guarantee that any model will cite the page.

Measurement terms

A baseline records the platform, market, language, question, answer, cited sources and sampling date before changes begin. Accuracy review checks whether descriptions and claims are correct. Conversion attribution connects relevant visits or enquiries with commercial outcomes.

Reliable reporting preserves the underlying evidence and limitations instead of compressing everything into one unexplained score.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI mention the same as a lead?

No. A mention is a visibility signal; a qualified lead requires a useful path and customer action.

Does a higher visibility score guarantee revenue?

No. Visibility should be reviewed together with accuracy, qualified traffic, enquiries and sales evidence.
